Laura C. Fine, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery and in the medical, laser, and surgical treatment of glaucoma. She has practiced at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston since 2003 and served as Medical Director and Past President of OCB (2023-2025) and Medical Director of the Boston Eye Surgery and Laser Center (2017-2021).

Dr. Fine is committed to providing thoughtful, individualized care and to helping patients understand their eye conditions and treatment options. She has expertise in cataract surgery and in the early detection and management of glaucoma, including complex and advanced glaucoma. Her goal is to preserve vision while choosing the treatment approach that best fits each patient’s individual needs, medical conditions and lifestyle.

Dr. Fine graduated from Wesleyan University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she was awarded the Oliver Memorial Prize for Excellence in Ophthalmology. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of California, San Francisco, receiving the Taylor Asbury Award for Outstanding Clinical Research. She then returned to Boston for advanced fellowship training in glaucoma and anterior segment surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School as a recipient of the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Fine has been actively involved in teaching and leadership throughout her career. She is a Clinical Instructor in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and a Lecturer in Ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine and has taught medical students, ophthalmology residents and fellows, and practicing physicians for more than two decades. She has also served as medical editor of The Aging Eye, a Harvard Medical School Special Health Report designed to help patients understand and protect their vision as they age.

Dr. Fine has held numerous leadership positions in Ophthalmology. She currently chairs EyeCare America, the public service program of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and previously served as President of both the New England Ophthalmological Society and the Chandler-Grant Glaucoma Society. She is a co-founder of Women Ophthalmologists of New England and received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award in recognition of her contributions to the profession. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company, where her work focuses on quality of care, patient safety, and reducing risk in ophthalmic practice.

An important part of Dr. Fine’s practice is her partnership with referring optometrists and ophthalmologists. She values clear communication and collaborative care and works closely with referring providers to develop an individualized plan for each patient to ensure continuity of care before and after surgery, laser or other medical treatments.

Dr. Fine believes that excellent eye care requires not only clinical and surgical expertise, but also listening carefully to patients, explaining complex information clearly, and making decisions together. She particularly values the long-term relationships she develops with her patients and the opportunity to help cataract patients achieve their best possible vision.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Fine enjoys reading, hiking, cooking, and spending time with her husband, two grown children, extended family, and friends.
