Bio
Dr. O’Connor is a board certified ophthalmologist with over 20 years’ experience in eye microsurgery. He received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and interned in Internal Medicine at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, LA. After his residency in Ophthalmology from The Eye and Ear Institute of the University of Pittsburgh, he went on to achieve a Glaucoma Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine, where he also taught as a Clinical Instructor in the Ophthalmology Department.
Dr. O’Connor entered private practice at the Northern Virginia Ophthalmology Associates. While there, he served as a Clinical Instructor for the Georgetown University School of Medicine at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, VA.
Throughout medical school, residency and fellowship training, Dr. O’Connor has been actively involved in many levels of ophthalmic research including animal studies, microsurgical procedures and pharmaceutical trials. These projects have led to numerous publications and presentations on ophthalmic and surgical treatments. He has lectured internationally on various methods of detecting and treating eye diseases, both surgically and medically.
Since 1994, Dr. O’Connor has been caring for patients on the South Shore, Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands – performing over 25,000 microsurgical and laser eye procedures. As a glaucoma specialist, Dr. O’Connor brings his expertise to the team providing the most advanced technology in early detection, medical, laser and surgical treatment. He continues to lecture on the medical, laser and surgical treatment of glaucoma, microsurgical techniques for cataracts and surgical refractive options for patients.
Dr. O’Connor is currently a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. In addition, he is an active member of many other professional boards and societies including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, International Society of Refractive Surgery, Massachusetts Eye Physicians and Surgeons, the Ophthalmology Outpatient Surgery Society and the New England Ophthalmology Society. Dr. O’Connor currently serves on the staff of Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth Hospital, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and as Medical Director of the Plymouth Laser & Surgical Center.
