Dr. Albert Liao is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of retinal diseases. He is committed to providing compassionate, individualized care using the latest advances in retinal medicine and surgery to help preserve and restore vision.

Dr. Liao treats a wide range of retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and retinal detachments. He considers it a privilege to care for patients whose lives have been affected by retinal disease and works closely with each patient to develop a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs and goals.

Dr. Liao earned his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from Princeton University before receiving his Doctor of Medicine from Emory University School of Medicine. He also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research from the Emory University Laney Graduate School. He completed his internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, his ophthalmology residency at Emory Eye Center, and his vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Liao has a strong interest in clinical research and innovation. He has received numerous honors, including a National Institutes of Health (NIH) TL1 Research Training Grant and the Emory Ophthalmology Senior Research Prize. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications in leading ophthalmology journals and has presented his research at national meetings including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), the Retina Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).

Dr. Liao is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Liao enjoys hiking, running, photography, and following a variety of sports.
