Dr. Bajart receives Distinguished Achievement Award

OCB Eye Health Services congratulates Ann Bajart, MD recipient of the New England Ophthalmological Society’s prestigious Distinguished Achievement Award which, since 1950, has been bestowed on a selective few ophthalmologists who have made valuable contributions to the field of ophthalmology and to NEOS. Dr. Bajart, who is the second woman to receive this award, was recognized for her commitment as a mentor and teacher over the years as well as for her deep involvement with NEOS. Dr. Bajart, who joined OCB 30 years ago, is a former president of NEOS and served on its Board of Directors for 22 years, and during that time has served on every one of its committees.

“This is a great honor that means a lot to me because I have been involved with this organization since I was a medical student, and it has been an important part of my professional life and my personal life “ says Dr. Bajart. “Through NEOS, I’ve met many ophthalmologists from all over New England. This was of great benefit for not only learning from each other different techniques and different approaches to various medical conditions, but also for referrals, and understanding who I can send my patients to in Vermont for example. It has always fostered a sense of camaraderie amongst colleagues that is truly unique to New England.”

NEOS posted a tribute to Dr. Bajart on its website. Here is an excerpt:

Dr. Bajart was one of the pioneers who broke the mold of the classic ophthalmologist when she became one of the first female residents not just at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, but in the field itself. Her ability to connect with different generations of ophthalmologists, past, present, and future is uncanny. Her generosity of spirit is unparalleled. Her entry onto the scene of Harvard Medical School and then at Mass Eye and Ear helped change the face of ophthalmology, and she did it in only the way Dr. Bajart could.
