Frequently Asked Questions

Are you accepting new patients?

OCB's team of specialists and primary eye care doctors are accepting new patients at all locations.

How long will my appointment be?

The average time is 1 to 3 hours. This varies depending on the type of appointment and additional testing that may be required.

Will I be dilated and need a driver?

Dilation is determined by your doctor and the type of appointment.  Consultations and annual eye exams may include dilation, however there are other types of appointments that will also require dilation.  It is best to ask when scheduling your appointment.  We recommend that if your eyes are dilated that you have a driver.

How long will dilation last?

Dilation typically can last between 4-6 hours, but may last longer.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

Optometrists are primary eye care doctors providing annual exams and medical care referring you to a specialist as needed.

Ophthalmologists provide medical, laser and surgical care and work with optometrists as a team caring for your eyes.

What insurances do you accept?

OCB accepts most insurances.  It is best to ask at the time of scheduling your appointment to confirm or contact your insurance company.

Where can I park and the costs for parking or do you validate?

Most OCB offices have convenient parking with handicap accessibility at no cost.

Our Boston office has a connected parking garage located at 50 Staniford Street which is owned by Massachusetts General Hospital. Parking fee is set by MGH and unfortunately we are unable to validate.  We encourage patients to use public transportation. OCB is convenient by the MBTA 'T' by the Red Line (Charles/MGH), the Orange Line (North Station), the Green Line (North Station) and the Blue Line (Bowdoin), as well as the commuter rail at North Station.
