Dr. Mami Aiello Iwamoto specializes in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Eye Plastic Surgery. Her expertise encompasses all disorders of the eyelids and tear drainage system. Dr Iwamoto’s surgical interests include cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and eyebrows, reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and anophthalmic sockets; surgical management of eyelid tumors; facial nerve disorders; lacrimal obstructions; thyroid eye disease, and medical and cosmetic Botox treatments. 

Dr. Iwamoto graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University and received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. She completed an Ophthalmology Residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital, which has been ranked as the best overall Ophthalmology training program for the past several years. In addition, she completed a Fellowship in Oculoplastics & Orbital Reconstruction and a second Fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology & Orbital Disease, both at the Wilmer Eye Institute. 

Upon completing her fellowship training, Dr. Iwamoto joined the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston and was appointed Associate Chief of Ophthalmology. She then joined Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston as a specialist in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Eye Plastic Surgery.  She is on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and is Surgeon at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. 

Dr. Iwamoto has lectured in Cosmetic Surgery courses and at Regional meetings and has published articles, chapters, and abstracts in the field. She is an Associate Examiner and Exam Developer for the American Board of Ophthalmology. She participates in teaching students at Harvard Medical School. 

Dr. Iwamoto lived in Japan and Switzerland prior to moving to the United States. She is a formally trained artist and continues coursework at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Dr. Iwamoto is an active member of the National Ski Patrol and patrols at Sunday River Ski Resort.  She is a Trainer-Evaluator for skiing, toboggan-handling, and emergency medical modules in the NSP Eastern Division.  She continues her study as a Black Belt martial artist in Taekwondo. Her other avid interests include off-road mountain biking, inline skating, SCUBA diving, and classical piano.
