Dr. Dale Oates received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and his undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University and a PhD in Biophysics and Genetics from the University of Colorado Medical Center. Dr. Oates completed his Ophthalmology residency and Glaucoma fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, and the New England Glaucoma Research Foundation.

Dr. Oates is an Assistant Surgeon in Ophthalmology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is an Instructor in Ophthalmology, part time, at Harvard Medical School and past Chief of Ophthalmology at Cape Cod Hospital.

Dr. Oates is on the Associate Staff of Tufts Medical Center. Additionally, Dr. Oates is on staff at South Shore Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton, Carney Hospital, Good Samaritan Medical Center, New England Eye Surgical Center, Cape Cod Hospital and Cape Cod Eye Surgery and Laser Center.

Dr. Oates is a member of the New England Ophthalmological Society, Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Oates is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
