Dr. Hsu was trained at Harvard University, the University of California at Davis and at Tufts-New England Eye Center. He graduated from Harvard University with a magna cum laude in Chemistry. He subsequently attended medical school at the University of California, Davis, and went on to do his internship year in internal medicine at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California. He completed his residency training in ophthalmology at the Tufts University-New England Eye Center and pursued an additional year of fellowship training in glaucoma and anterior segment surgery with the New England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston.
Dr. Hsu has been extensively involved in research in a multitude of fields, with publications in national journals as well as having written a textbook chapter on nanophalmos. He has also served as a co-editor of a recurring monthly series of case presentations in Ophthalmic Surgery News. Dr. Hsu has volunteered his time with the Lyons community eye screening program and was a member of the graduate medical education committee at Tufts Medical Center. He is fluent in conversational Mandarin Chinese.
Dr. Hsu specializes in cataract surgery as well as the medical, surgical and laser treatment of glaucoma.
