Dr. Shah attended the University of Rochester where he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.  He graduated with Distinction in Research from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.  While in medical school, he was one of 25 medical students in the country to receive the American Medical Association Leadership Award. 

Driven by an interest in community health and research, Dr. Shah earned a Masters in Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health.  He completed his internship in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Shah did his residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia where he served as a Chief Resident. He stayed at Wills Eye Institute to complete fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery.  He was one of four fellows nationwide honored with a Ronald G. Michels Retina Fellowship Award. 

Dr. Shah is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Retina Society, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He has vast experience in the medical and surgical treatment of all retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and retinal vein occlusions.  He performs advanced retinal surgery for all vitreoretinal conditions, including macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments, and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. 

Dr. Shah has spoken nationally and published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He was a Chief Editor of the Wills Eye Manual, one of the best selling ophthalmology textbooks in the world.  He also co-authored the Wills Eye Interactive Review of Ophthalmology, and serves as a Co-Editor of both the Clinical Trials section of Retina Times and the Five Minute Consult in Ophthalmology.  He received the Secretariat Award and the Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for his contributions to the field.  Additionally, he received both the Honor Award and Senior Honor Award from the American Society of Retina Specialists for outstanding service to the Society's scientific and educational programs.

Dr. Shah is the principal investigator or sub-investigator on numerous clinical trials and is able to provide the most sophisticated treatments available.  His research interests cover a myriad of retinal conditions, including macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment.

Dr. Shah is the Fellowship Co-Director of the combined Tufts New England Medical Center/Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston vitreoretinal surgery fellowship.  A born educator, Dr. Shah values training fellows in one of the top fellowship programs in the country. 

Dr. Shah, an avid marathoner, enjoys running and cycling with his wife and children.
