OCB Optical: Contact Lenses

Putting Your Lenses In
Wash and rinse your hands thoroughly, then dry with a lint-free towel.
Always start with the same lens to avoid mix-ups.
Pour the lens and storage fluid from the case into your clean palm.
Examine your lens for particles, deposits or tears. If the lens looks damaged, don't put it on your eye. This can cause injury.
Place the lens, cup side up, on your forefinger. Be sure the lens is right side out - the lens edge will appear almost straight up. If the lens is inside out, the edges will bow out slightly.
Position the lens on the tip of the index finger of your dominant hand.
With your head erect, look forward and pull your upper lid upward with the middle finger of your other hand.
Continue looking straight ahead, pull your lower eyelid downward with the middle finger of your right hand.
Still looking forward, place the lens gently toward the bottom of your eye.
Continue holding the lids open and let your eye drift downward.
Gently release the eyelids.
Close eyelid and gently pat it to secure and center the lens on your eye.
Repeat the entire procedure with your other lens.
After putting your lenses in, rinse the case with rinsing solution and allow to air dry.

Taking Your Lenses Out
Wash and rinse your hands thoroughly, then dry with a lint-free towel.
Always start with the same lens to avoid mix-ups.
Look upward and pull down on your lower eyelid with middle finger.
Place your index finger on the lower edge of your lens.
Continue looking upward, while you slide the lens down to the white of your eye.
Gently remove the lens by lightly squeezing the lens between your index finger and thumb.
To make it easier to remove lenses, you may use one or two drops of rewetting solution to moisten you lenses.

DOs
Handle your lenses with finger tips; avoid contact with fingernails.
If you use hair spray, apply it before inserting lenses.
If you wear make-up. Apply it after inserting your lenses.
Contact lenses should be cleaned and disinfected daily, or after each wearing period. Clean and disinfect one lens at a time.
If lenses are not worn on a daily basis, they should be stored in the lens case and disinfected before use.
Soft contact lenses and the contact lens case should be replaced frequently.
Store all contact lens solutions at room temperature (59¡-86¡F).
Solutions are sterile until opened. Keep the cap closed when not in use.

DON'Ts
Never re-use lens solutions.
Do not use saline to soak lenses.
Do not use eye drops or solutions not intended for contact lens use.
Do not use eye medication except under medical supervision.
Do not wear contact lenses while working in the presence of irritating vapors or fumes.
Do not use make-up in the inner margins of the eyelids.
Do not allow soaps, cosmetics or other chemical substances to come into contact with your lenses.
Do not touch solution bottle tips to any surface; this can cause contamination.

Soft Lens Care

Cleaning Reminders

It is important that you clean your lenses immediately upon removal rather than just prior to inserting the lens.

Wash your hands before handling your lenses. Do not use any soap containing cream, lotion, oil, or perfume. Keep nails short, filed and clean.

Always clean the lenses first and then disinfect them. To clean, put a small amount of solution in the palm of a clean hand and rub the lenses with gentle, straight-line movements to remove any loose debris on the surface. After rubbing the lenses, rinse thoroughly with rinsing solution (or saline) and continue with the disinfecting segment of the care system. "No Rub" solutions can be used in the same manner or you can simply rinse with a stream of solution for 3-7 seconds prior to storing. Store the lenses in the disinfecting solution until you are ready to reinsert them.

A lens should never be inserted that has not been disinfected by the system provided.

Clean and disinfect your lenses if they are stored more than 7 days (check solution insert).
