Questions?
Will I be awake or asleep during surgery?

Almost all procedures are performed while you are awake using local anesthesia. Patients are offered a medication to assist them in relaxing during surgery. Intravenous sedation can be performed when necessary.
How much bruising and swelling can I expect?

All procedures will cause some bruising and swelling. BOTOX® cosmetic injections cause slight redness which quickly resolves. Eyelid surgery (such as blepharoplasty) often causes bruising around the eyelids that improves over 1-2 weeks. Make-up can be applied after 1-2 weeks.
How much discomfort will I have after surgery?

It is common for patients to describe slight itching of the eyelids and occasional dryness of the eyes. These symptoms improve by applying ointment which is provided to you after surgery. Pain after surgery is very uncommon.
What should I do at home after surgery?

You will usually be examined by your doctor 1 week after surgery at which time stitches (if present) will be removed. During the first week, it is important to minimize strenuous activity and to sleep with your head slightly elevated. This helps reduce the swelling. Most importantly, be sure to apply a cold compress to the eyelids at least 40 minutes out of every hour during the day for the first 2 days. The more that you can keep a cold compress on the eyelids, the less swelling there will be. You may bathe normally, but limit the amount of water to the face. You should not allow the shower to spray directly onto the face, and you should avoid swimming.
Will insurance pay for my surgery?

Insurance will not cover the costs of cosmetic surgery. We can help you with financing your procedure at reasonable interest rates.
How many surgeries will I need?

The answer to this depends on the plan that you and your surgeon create. Some patients require one operation, while others may have their surgeries in "stages". Your surgeon will explain your options to you based on your evaluation.
