Cornea
Activity Restrictions

The clear cornea has no direct blood supply, so it is slow to heal. Strenuous exercise, as
well as lifting anything heavy that might cause you to strain, should be avoided for
approximately six to eight weeks. Eyeglasses should be worn as protection during the day,
even though the corrective lens will not be your prescription at this time. At night, the
protective metal shield must be worn. The stitches holding your eye together are only 1/3 as
thick as an eyelash; they are fragile. Always ask your doctor before you increase activity
or stop wearing the eye protection.
Eye drops should be used faithfully as prescribed. Never run out of or stop using your eye
drops without specific instruction from your doctor. To do so might cause rejection.
