Dr. Liao was born and raised in Maryland. He attended the University of Maryland, receiving degrees in Electrical Engineering and Biology. He went on to pursue a combined MD/PhD program at the Medical College of Virginia. Following residency, Dr. Liao completed his vitreoretinal fellowship in Boston at both Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston and Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Liao has an interest in treating a variety of vitreoretinal diseases including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and retinal detachments. He has participated in a number of national clinic trials involving new treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusions. In addition, he has presented at several national meetings and authored peer-reviewed scientific articles.
