Biography
Dr. Parekh has a special interest and expertise in treating medical and surgical conditions of the eye, including Cataract, Glaucoma, and LASIK.

He is a Surgeon in Ophthalmology at both the Boston Eye Surgery and Laser Center and the Cape Cod Eye Surgery and Laser Center and maintains clinical privileges at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Tufts New England Eye Center.

Before joining Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, Dr. Parekh had already distinguished himself in the field of Ophthalmology with both his academic achievements and esteemed training experience.

Dr. Parekh earned his college degree (Bachelor of Arts with Honors, Biology Major) from Johns Hopkins University. He earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (M.D.), and was then awarded the Kennedy Scholarship to attend graduate school at Harvard Universityís John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he earned a Masterís of Public Administration (MPA) degree in U.S. Health Policy, Economics and Management.

Dr. Parekh completed his ophthalmology training at the world renowned Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, where he was the first resident to perform ìbladelessî LASIK, using the Intralase laser. At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Parekh was also highly regarded by his students, and was awarded the W. Richard Green Teaching Award in his first year there. In addition, he has been active in researching many types of eye disease and has been awarded numerous research grants and been recognized in research competitions.

Following residency, Dr. Parekh spent an additional year of highly sub-specialized fellowship training with Minnesota Eye Consultants, in Minneapolis, MN, one of the most prestigious, and sought after fellowships in the United States. This experience refined his passion for conditions involving glaucoma, cataract, cornea, and laser vision correction, including LASIK.

At Penn, he performed important research on the topic of myopia development (near sightedness) at the Childrenís Hospital of Philadelphia, and was supported by a research grant from the NIH (National Institute of Child Health & Human Development). At Johns Hopkins, he was awarded the A. E. Maumenee Research Grant Award, the W. Richard Green Research Grant Award and the Oliver D. Schein Research Grant Award. As a senior resident, Dr. Parekh won 3rd place in the highly esteemed Johns Hopkins Mitchell Prize Research Competition.

Dr. Parekh has authored numerous textbook chapters and research articles in several prestigious peer-reviewed journals, such as the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, the Journal of Glaucoma, and Ophthalmology. Dr. Parekh also reviews manuscripts for Ophthalmology, the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, and the Journal of Refractive Surgery. His research has also been presented here in the US and internationally over the last decade.

For his outstanding work, the American Medical Association Foundation awarded Dr. Parekh its 2006 Leadership Award.
